Strength tarot card meaning

VIII · Upright · Courage · Patience · Compassion

Strength represents the courage to stay with a difficult feeling without letting it decide every action. There is tenderness in this card as well as resolve. You can be upset, afraid or angry and still respond in a way that respects you and the situation.

Upright meaning

Strength represents courage that can remain gentle in the presence of something powerful. Anger, longing, fear or desire may rise intensely without having to decide every action that follows.

The encounter with the lion gives this card its character: closeness to instinct, patience with its force and confidence that does not depend on overpowering it. You may recognise this strength when you say something difficult calmly, stay present through discomfort or ask for help before you are exhausted. Steadiness can include tenderness toward yourself.

The challenge within this card

Being seen as strong can make it difficult to admit distress. You may remain composed while carrying more than anyone realises. Patience loses its purpose when it requires you to endure repeated harm or conceal every need for support.

Strength in love and relationships

A kind conversation can still contain a firm no. You may need to say that something hurt, ask for a change or admit you are afraid. Speaking honestly without trying to punish the other person gives both care and self-respect a place in the conversation.

A question for you

What do I need to say kindly and clearly?

Strength in work and career

A difficult colleague or setback can leave you wanting to defend yourself immediately. Give yourself a moment to work out what needs saying. You can be clear about a problem without turning the whole exchange into a test of your worth or competence.

A question for you

What response would I feel comfortable standing by tomorrow?

Strength during change

Being brave through change does not mean feeling confident every day. You may need encouragement, rest or help with something that once felt easy. Allowing those needs to be visible can make it easier to keep going without spending all your energy looking strong.

A question for you

Where could I allow myself more support?
